Giovanna Gil Alves is ArtSugar's first Latin American artist. Born in Uruguay and also a Spanish citizen, she is a multifaceted artist whose work spans painting, drawing, ceramics, and illustration. At the age of 22, Giovanna made a bold decision to change the course of her life by abandoning her studies in construction and architecture to fully dedicate herself to art. This courageous shift marked a defining moment in her life, affirming her commitment to a creative path. Giovanna has received the Declaration of Cultural Interest by the Ministry of Education and Culture of Uruguay and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for her exhibitions abroad. She has also received 2022/23 – PicassoInspired – Picasso Museum Barcelona 2018 – Star of the South Awards – Uruguay 2018 – GRAN DAME Award – Argentina 2018 – Great Women of 2018 -Argentina Her art takes an autobiographical approach, with each piece reflecting a part of her personal journey, emotions, and ongoing process of self-evolution. Through ceramics, drawing, painting, and illustration, she explores the environment, memories, and experiences, aiming to reconnect with the essence of what it means to be human. Since 2023, Giovanna has been granted the Declaration of Cultural Interest by the Ministry of Education and Culture of Uruguay, as well as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for her international exhibitions. In addition to her visual art, Giovanna is also a passionate writer. She has authored several books, including I Have Realized (2018), 360 (2019), and How to Become an Artist and Make Your Gift a Profession (2023). Furthermore, she has contributed to international anthologies such as Poems of Love and Peace and 1 Story 1 Smile, showcasing her versatility and commitment to literature on a global scale.
