Leftys Right Mind is the result of combining innate artistic abilities with an ever growing and relentless obsession with art, and its seemingly endless possibilities of expression. What started out as simply an outlet for the (you guessed it) left handed, Danielle Becker, Leftys Right Mind has continued to captivate artists and clients alike. A self-proclaimed “design nerd,” Danielle is in her element when experimenting with various design techniques. From graphic design to hand painting, sketching to experimenting with glitter, Danielle’s unrelenting passion is what keeps her work unique.
This exclusive collaboration with ArtSugar is an exploration to try and discover the balance between graphic precision and free-flowing, yet purposeful, inaccuracy. By freeing ourselves of rigid guides and rules, figuratively letting our hair down, we are able to truly embrace the essence of creativity, and develop a relaxing but decisive collection. Juxtaposed between trained graphic perfection and an accidental splatter of paint, this collection is the interpretation of Leftys Right Mind original artwork.

Self taught, emerging artist, Shonna Drew, developed her fascination with art as a child growing up in New York. She graduated with a BFA in acting from Marymount Manhattan College and shortly after took a turn into the fashion world. Though she can’t remember a time in her life where she wasn’t painting, it wasn’t until 2014 that she began to focus on her art. Shonna is currently living and creating art from her Miami studio. The artist regards her paintings as visual personality extensions… sparkly metallics , and sometimes humorous subjects reflecting the inner girl — contrasted fearlessly with bold lips, expressing the unfettered, independent woman who discovered her artistic voice. Shonna, like her art, embraces beautiful contradictions.

Aliza Stone Howard is a New York City painter whose focus on portraiture began with her senior thesis at Harvard, a series of paintings that explored the construction of femininity and the collective gestures of New York women. Howard is driven by the potential of external appearances, inhabited space and material belongings to access a person's nature. Her paintings of heavily styled women and pop culture icons, in particular, investigate the visual mechanisms that both connote distinct personalities and blur individual identity through repetition. Howard is especially interested in the temporal qualities of painting and plays on the notion that paintings immortalize their subjects by incorporating fleeting trends into her portraits, from passé film and television characters to items and articles of clothing that belong to a particular time period.

Louisa Powell is a DC based artist working from her backyard studio in multiple mediums. She completed her undergraduate degree in Environmental Design at the Maryland Institute College of Art and her Masters of Fine Art degree in sculpture from the University of Georgia. Today Louisa splits her time between this drawing practice and her abstract sculptural installation work. She has come to find that what intrigues her about recreating representational subject matter with charcoal isn’t that different from what incites her to create abstract forms in the third dimension. Up close, everything is just a bunch of shapes in space. Louisa finds drawing people and architecture most exciting, though she does not discriminate. Ultimately, her curiosity is in how the relationships of extreme lights and darks put on paper come together to depict something that we recognize.

As a self-taught artist, Jamie started creating mixed-media pieces in high school and continued to do so throughout her college years at New York City’s Fashion Institute of Technology. Today, Jamie’s main medium is ink on paper. She creates these magical abstract pieces by filling the same tool that brings many families hope and rainbow babies with ink (sterile IVF needles). Then releasing the ink over the paper in a way that builds up color and form through careful gesture and thoughtful placement. The way the ink moves across the paper you can easily imagine a mermaid's tail swishing through the colorful pools of ink.
Since 2016, Jamie has been using her art to help bring calm and happiness to others who have gone through or are still going through their infertility journeys. As well as those who just want something fun and reflective of their styles in their homes through private commissions.
When Jamie is not painting, She works as a lifestyle buyer for gifts & glassware at a national wine, spirits, and gift chain. She is inspired by global design, specifically interior design, and is particularly drawn to the interior design movements coming out of Australia.
Jamie lives with her husband, her twin boys, and their labradoodle named Gem in their very noisy house in Rockville, Maryland.

Jessica Kaplan is a self-taught artist whose large-scale abstract expressionist paintings reflect her creative mind and emotions. Multi-layered and meticulously crafted, each of her works is unique. During her years of living in Los Angeles where she founded her own airbrush tanning company, the bodies of her celebrity clientele were her canvas. After returning to her roots in the Windy City, the Chicago native fell in love with a new passion: painting. Jessica has Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME), also known as Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS), a disease that permeates every aspect of her life. This illness not only causes extreme exhaustion but also chronic pain, giving her a short window of time in which she has the energy to function each day. Art is her one channel for release. The act of painting itself can be painful and brutal to her body—it often takes all her strength to create the dynamic images she does, going beyond the paintbrush and using anything she can from marbles to her bare hands—but despite this pain, Jessica’s resilience has shaped who she is and informed her art. All while ceaselessly battling and raising awareness for CFS, Jessica uses her art to bring brightness to others, showing that though her body may be hindered, her mind is boundless. Whether it’s through written repetitions of hopeful messages or splashes of vibrant color that shimmer in the light, in Jessica’s art, hope shines through.
